American Hudson River School Painter, 1826-1900 ..American painter. He was a leading representative of the second generation of the HUDSON RIVER SCHOOL, who made an important contribution to American landscape painting in the 1850s and 1860s. The son of a wealthy and prominent businessman, he studied briefly in Hartford with two local artists, Alexander Hamilton Emmons (1816-84) and Benjamin Hutchins Coe (1799-1883). Thanks to the influence of the Hartford patron DANIEL WADSWORTH, in 1844 he became the first pupil accepted by Thomas Cole. Adriaen Frans BoudewijnsAdriaan Frans Boudewyns, not Anton Frans (Bauduins, or Baudouin), (3 October 1644 - 3 December 1719) was a Flemish Baroque landscape painter.
He was born at Brussels and learned to paint under a landscape painter named Ignatius van der Stock, and was received into the Guild there in 1665. He then travelled to Paris in 1666 and studied under A. F. van der Meulen for three years, and whose daughter Barbara he married 12 January 1670. In 1674 his wife died and in 1681 he moved back to Brussels where he married again. According to Houbraken he was a good landscape painter who encourage Gerard Hoet to stay in Brussels for 8 months in the 1680s. His son Frans Boudewijns (1682-1767) also became a successful painter. He was ruined in the bombardment of Brussels in 1695.

Jan Philip van Thielen (Mechelen, 1618 - Mechelin, 1667) was a Flemish Baroque painter who specialized in flowers.
Van Thielen was the son of a minor nobleman and eventually assumed the title of Lord of Couwenberch. In 1631 or 1632 he began studying at the age of thirteen with his future brother-in-law, the history painter Theodoor Rombouts (1597-1637), and in 1641 he commenced his studies with the flower painter Daniel Seghers (1590-1661). According to Houbraken (who mistakenly wrote his birth year as 1681 instead of 1618), his reputation during his lifetime was such that he received patronage from the Spanish crown,

Brother of Jean-Baptiste Nattier. As well as being taught by his father, he trained with his godfather, Jean Jouvenet, and attended the drawing classes of the Acad?mie Royale, where in 1700 he won the Premier Prix de Dessin. From around 1703 he worked on La Galerie du Palais du Luxembourg. The experience of copying the work of Rubens does not, however, seem to have had a liberating effect on his draughtsmanship, which was described by the 18th-century collector Pierre-Jean Mariette as 'cold'. Nattier was commissioned to make further drawings for engravers in the early part of his career, including those after Hyacinthe Rigaud's famous state portrait of Louis XIV (1701; Paris, Louvre) in 1710, which indicates that he had established a reputation while he was still quite young. Although he was offered a place at the Acad?mie de France in Rome on the recommendation of Jouvenet, Nattier preferred to remain in Paris and further his career. In 1717 he nevertheless made a trip to Holland, where he painted portraits of Peter the Great and the Empress Catherine (St Petersburg, Hermitage).
